Once upon a planet billions of years after its formation in one of the galaxies among billions of galaxies in a universe so huge that the distance from that planet to the farthest known galaxy is several billion parsecs, or 40 billion trillion miles, there arose a species of bipedal primates that came to call their planet Earth, and their species homo sapiens, or ‘humans.’ Modern paleontology has developed the following taxonomy:

Kingdom:                Animalia

Phylum:                  Chordata

Class:                     Mammalia

Order:                    Primates

Superfamily:          Hominidea

Family:                   Hominidae

Genus:                    Homo

Species:                  Homo Sapiens

Clarification: Hominidae is one of the two families in the Superfamily Hominidea. The other Family is Pongidae, which includes the great apes.  Members of Hominidea are called ‘hominoids.’  Members of Pongidea are called ‘pongids.’  The Family Hominidae includes modern humans and their fossil ancestors, and its members are called ‘hominids.’  Throughout this Pacificus Enterprise, the term ‘hominids’ will mean only modern humans, i.e., homo sapiens, unless otherwise specified.

Tremendous new light has been shed on the origin and evolutionary development of hominids by the discovery in December 1992 near the town of Aramis in the Arafar region of Ethiopia of  extensive fossil remains that have come to represent a new kind of ancestor now called ardipithecus ramidus, nicknamed ‘Ardi. It is 4.4 Ma (million years ago) old, and is considered to be the long-sought potential root-species for the Hominidae.  Inasmuch as the year 2009 C.E. celebrates the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) devoted an October 2nd  Special Issue of its magazine SCIENCE to the Ardi finding.  Also: .

We return now to the main thread of the Metaview. In the course of time, as simplicity fed on ambient elements under local heat, pressure, bombardment by cosmic radiation, and the workings of chemistry and probability over millions of years, there evolved higher complexities and a primordial ’soup’ in which the first creatures grew. In the further course of millions of years there evolved Homo habilis, an upright East African hominid having some advanced humanlike characteristics, comprising an early form of Homo, the genus of bipedal primates that includes humans, followed by Homo erectus, Homo sapiens neanderhalensis, and finally, Homo sapiens sapiens during the upper Paleolithic Epoch, the prototype of modern humans, with the first fully human version of hominids appearing about 50,000 years ago. The hominids came to call their planet Earth, and through their sciences learned that it is 4.3 billion years old.

As their sciences advanced they came to discover the origin of their universe and the evolution of its space, matter and time, and to map its present structure, including their own galaxy and their solar system in that galaxy and their planet Earth in that system. They discovered the origin and evolution of their Cosmos by means of their extraordinary multi-science of Physical Cosmology

In 2003 they announced that a satellite called the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe had produced the most detailed and precise map yet made of the universe just after its birth, which confirmed the Big Bang theory in triumphant detail and opened new chapters in the early history of the cosmos, which was found to be 13.7 billion years old, plus or minus one percent.

During the course of terrestrial evolution, the brain (encephalon) of animal species also evolved in a process called encephalization. Humans grew to enjoy unique neural capacities, but much of human neuroarchitecture is shared with ancient species; much of humans’ basic systems are similar to those of the most basic vertebrates, for instance, aquatic vertebrates including the shark. As evolutionary encephalization progressed, new higher structures and functions evolved on top of the previous lower and ferocious ones. Eventually the higher functions manifested what the hominids call Reason.

The consequences are summed up by Mephistopheles in his monologue with the Lord in Goethe’s Faust:

Of suns and worlds I’ve nothing to be quoted, / How men torment themselves is all I’ve noted,

The little god o’ the world sticks to his same old way, / And is as whimsical as on Creation’s Day.

Life somewhat better might content him, / But for the gleam of heavenly light that thou hast lent him.

He calls it Reason — thence his powers increased / To be far beastlier than any beast.

By the combination of evolutionary neurophysiology and abuse of the resultant Reason, hominids became the most vicious, deadly and destructive species on the planet.

The hominids engaged in so much warfare and their weapons became so deadly that starting early in their 20th century — counting from the birth of a Hebrew rabbi named Yeshua, which translated into the later English language as Jesus, whom everyone considered to be a prophet and many considered to be the messiah, from the Hebrew word mashiah, meaning anointed, or messiah, which translated into English as ‘Christ’ — many nations began to create and sign treaties to halt or at least control arms races and wars.

The 20th century saw a profusion of such treaties and agreements — from the Covenant of the League of Nations (1919), The League Commission on Armies Draft Treaty ((1925), Pact of Locarno (1925), the  Washington Naval Conference (1927), and so on and on and on to the present and into the future —  all to little or no avail.

For the 20th Century produced Three World Wars (the Third, a.k.a ‘Cold War,’ included the Korean and Vietnam Wars), the beginning of the Fourth World War (Global Islamic Jihad), and five Holocausts: the Armenian by the Ottoman Muslims, the Ukrainian by the Marxist-Leninist Soviets, the European (Jewish and Other) by Fascism and Naziism, the Cambodian by the Khmer Rouge Communists, the Rwandan by a Catholic and Hutu mix, and the beginning of the Darfurian ethnocide by the Sudanese Muslims.  Four World Wars and Five Holocausts in less than 100 yearsSomething is profoundly and fundamentally wrong.  As this tract shows, the 20th and 21st Centuries have been ideologically-determined Catastrophes — unleashed because of the Fatal Flaw in World Affairs:  the missing dimension: the ideological dimension: to deal with the malignant ideologies that define, drive, and legitimate Mankind’s oppressions and wars.

But one can neither properly fight Wars nor achieve Peace without a clear and workable definition of  both.  That is provided by Thomas Hobbes in his Leviathan (16510:

For Warre consisteth not in Battle only, or in the act of fighting; but in a tract of time, wherein the Will to contend by Battel is sufficiently known; and there the notion of Time, is to be considered in the nature of Warre; as it is in the nature of Weather.  For as the nature of Foule weather, lyeth not in a Showre or two of rain, but in an inclination thereto of many days together:  So the nature of Warre consisteth not in actual fighting; but in the known disposition thereto, during which there is no assurance to the contrary.  All other time is PEACE.

The ‘inclination’ and ‘disposition’ to War are crystallized and distributed in a war’s ideological foundations, which rationalize, legitimate, motivate, and unify “the Will to contend by Battel”.

The ideologies involved in those World Wars are:  Islamism, Christianism, Social-Darwinism, Fascism, Naziism, Shinto-Tanakaism [this writer’s term], and Marxism-Lenisnism and its variants.  All of those except Shinto-Tanakaism were products of Abrahamic Civilization, which comprises the three religions that trace their roots back to the patriarch Abrahim (considered by many scholars to have been only a mythical culture hero), namely Judaism, Christianity and Islam.  In overview, Abrahamic Civilization in the 20th Century was an Ideologically Determined Catastrophe — the most massively savage century in history.

After describing and commenting on the most savage and slaughterous battle in history, the battle of Verdun during the ‘Great War’ (World War I), which raged from February to December 1916 and cost over a million men killed, wounded or missing to no avail, in his television series of civilization studies called LEGACY (Maryland Public Television, 1992),  British historian Michael Wood describes an annual ceremony commemorating the bloodbath:

It is a freezing night in northern France. Former enemies, French and German, meet to commemorate the bloodiest battle in history, which began on this night seventy-five years ago, Verdun.

…under flags of past battle the old familiar rituals of Christian sacrifice take place. Only a lifetime ago, three quarters of a million people died here for a couple of square miles ground where the heirs of Voltaire were bled white by the heirs to the culture of Goethe and Beethoven. The pointlessness of it all passes belief today, but the history of the West more than any other has swung between savagery and idealism. A contradiction apparently deeply rooted in our character and history.

…And there the inescapable lessson of history is that for all the great achievements of the West, for all its humanistic values and egalitarian principles, its character is touched by a deep strain of violence, and that’s the paradox which confronts us as we look to the of civilization at a time when across the world, the values of the West are supposed to have triumphed.

The problem is that there is no contradiction, there is no paradox, but there is a fundamental dualism: in Western Civilization there exist side by side and intertwined , both Modernity and Bronze-Age Savagery — a stage of civilizaion that we call in this work Bronze Age Modernity.  The ideological cores of that Savagery lie in our Abrahamic foundations: The savage Bronze Age literature of the Old Testament, which passed on to become the savage Bronze Age literature of the New Testament, and then on to “the third, last, and correct testament” (according to Muhammad), the savage Bronze Age literature of the Koran.  As Wood said earlier in the program regarding only the West:

The biological roots of the problem are summarized in this writer’s letter published in the New York Academy of Sciences Magazine of Spring 2008:  “Here on Earth, the homo sapiens are the most vicious, slaughterous, destructive, malignant species of the entire animal kingdom…Hominid beastliness derives from the evolutionary process of encephalization, via which our neurophysiology retains structures of lower species of beasts.”

Mark Twain observed the realities of that, and wrote: “I have no race prejudices…no color prejudices, nor caste prejudices, nor creed prejudices,”  in the September 1898 isue of Harper’s, and declared:

“All that I care to know is that a man is a human being — that is enough for me: he can’t be any worse.”

We can carry the micro analysis down to the genetic level.  The structure and functions of the human brain are determined by a repertoire of 25,000 genes.  They are not brand new genes for human beings, but are mostly hand-me-ups from lower species.  For instance, the human genome (blend of ‘gene’ and ‘chromosome’), i.e., the complete set of the human species’ genes, is 99% the same as that of chimpanzees, whose genome is mostly the same as that of lower species, and so on down the evolutionary ancestral tree.

In the Age of Catastrophic Terrorism, with Weapons of Mass Death, Disruption and Destruction, the current ethoses and ideologies of violence and license concocted by humans on foundations of the human genome cannot be allowed to continue.  Nor can the historical lag of many generations between major new knowledge and its adaptation by culture.

For one, there must be a new Reformation — a Reformation of the Bronze Age within which we remain enthralled.  Some of the key elements are provided on Page 8, Reforming The Bronze Age, of website PACIFICUS at  .

That is in Cooperative Mode.  But the Case of Global Islamic Jihad is one of national defense and international security in a most deadly World War — a Jihad that has been going on against all Infidels since Muhammad declared it 1400 years ago.  That requires the severest Adversarial Mode.  The Case, principles, applications, and requisite Operations are provided on Pages 7A, B, C and D of website PACIFICUS.

Presently we have been fighting only terror.  We must urgently begin to combat terrorism.  That cannot be done by ‘boots on the ground’ or drone aircraft or naval missiles and 16-inch guns — or just ‘winning hearts and minds.’  Pages 7 show the way.

Then we will at last begin to heed Sun Tzu’s principle in his ancient classic, THE ART OF WAR, taught in the military schools of the United States, Britain and France:

For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill.  To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

We would then also be applying Strategy in the Indirect Mode developed by and set forth in the books of the late French General of the Army, Andre Beaufre.

And we would at last be fighting War in the Sixth Domain, as summarized on the Home Page of this website (at .)

In sum: in world affairs and national and international security operations: the ideopower dimensions and applications of this Pacificus Enterprise must be promoted, further developed as necessary, and implemented — soon.

Else ‘Silent Spring’ will become Silent Planet.
